The Girondist deputies Pétion, Buzet and Barbaroux, condemned by the revolutionary regime, found refuge in the German castle, where they died defending freedom on the 8th of Messidor of Year II. Château GERMAN's vines were planted in the 18th century on the Castillonais terrace, bordering the Saint-Emilion terroir, and produce a red wine typical of the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.
